still doing art.  getting rid of my craft supplies as I am getting old now.  no more seed beads, feather work, mask making, wood burning, weaving, card makings, and other stuff.  now strictly art and writing.  this is an ink sketch.

here is a watercolor titled 2000 years and still a cat.   The actual piece is much wider, so this looks elongated.

update 2013

I have been indulging in art this last year and this year; watercolors, pastels, and ink drawings.
When my son sent me a feather mask, I got really excited to give this art a try and now have my ingredients.  I will likely begin masks in March.   Additionally, I will need to finish using up my supplies for making wall masks.  Gee, this is too much fun.

Last April I gave a class in zen tangles at  the local art gallery.  Two of my students went on to win awards at art shows that year, and one is actively teaching zen tangles now herself....and getting paid!  That's me, alright, not sticking with any one thing long enough to make  a "name" for myself.  Ah well, fun is what is most important after all.

Really enjoying ink and pencil drawing now.  funny how backwards that is for an artist.  Usually it's recommended we start with drawing and graduate to painting.  couldn't do it.  Too excited.

Poetry

Sept. 2010

Well, i've signed myself up to do more than i really want to. Maybe it will prove beneficial in the long run though. I am writing for publication in the local poetry newsletter and helping to edit it for incoming poems too. i have also joined a group of poets for twice monthly critique meetings. Additionally, I am submitting to magazines who, of course, don't pay.

I have printed and bound three volumes of poetry of my own and have them for sale. It seems though, that the majority of readers in America don't really want to buy poetry. Guess i am just too old for the present generation. Ah well, life moves onward all the time.

Most of my poetry is very short and meant to evoke emotional reverie in the reader. Occasionally I find a longer poem emerging, and I will share one of those here on this page.

Deep Forest

Icy waters numb my feet in the stream.
I am seeking agates reputed to live here...
Ancient stones, untouched by man their entire lives,
Not yet taken.
Splashy light, not captured by pine boughts
Sings silently and blindingly on surgings and ripples,
Dancing, free from gravity.
Reflections hide boulders from cramping toes.
A cool silence of forest depths, dark as twilight,
Stills the mind, slows concerns,
Ignores the worlds and worries of city people.

A squirrel sits up to watch me,
His seat a rock for centuries unmoved,
Upholstered in gree moss, many-hued.
I feel ungainly, an intruder,
Yet held softly as a wandering child
By the forest spirit,
Loved, long-lost.

I leave the stream to surrender my stiff and heavy body
To the forest loam.
Lying on my back, the sky appears to be
Held up by treetops, all sharp and black,
Pinned in place.

But then a black birdshape crosses over
And suddenly the sky is deep as illusion.
I turn my head to share this wonder
But the squirrel has moved on,
Eager to gather the crop
The trees have produced just for him.

I smile, saturated with peace.

Bead Woman's Den

Greetings to all you creative people! I am Susan, Bead Woman. I owned a bead shop on Maui in Hawaii for six years, but even before that I was creating with beads and teaching bead jewelry and hair barrettes. (The Fantasy Works)

In all, I guestimate I have about 30 years or more of beading experience, so Here I AM to share the wealth of nitty-gritty to make your beading experiences more pleasureable, and more stable.

ASK me your questions. i may be able to answer right away, but sometimes life gets in the way and i take three days to get to my mail (sorry).

I can offer information on methods and supplies, including where to get things at reasonable prices.

I also can offer suggestions on repairing bead and pearl jewelry. If you are wanting to clean your pearl or stone jewelry, I have experience in that too.

There is no sense in my getting old and passing away without passing on my store of knowledge to the younger generation, so ask away.

Here are some of the bracelets and barrettes I created over 12 years ago:
